Newtonite History In 1937, John Newton & Company launched the first Newtonite damp proofing membrane, which was a corrugated pitch impregnated fibre material for damp proofing. This was unique at that time and since its inception over 5 million m² were sold over the forty years the product was marketed. Its life span came to an end in 1980 when a newer version known as Newlath was introduced to the market. John Newton & Company has developed further polyethylene membranes, drainage and pumping systems to respond to the industry’s demand for full tanking systems for commercial and large domestic properties. John Newton & Company invented and developed the thermic welded polyethylene mesh on the front of dimpled membranes to give a key for the application of plasters or renders. John Newton & Company feel that there is a definite demand for a smaller roll of meshed damp proofing membrane to be used on small and medium-sized domestic and commercial premises where the installation of full drainage and tanking systems is not required or appropriate. They have therefore, using the latest technology, updated the Newtonite product to provide a much cleaner, more efficient and more effective replacement for the original material.
